Why do we power flush heating systems? Because power flushing does exactly that. It flushes your central heating system of all sediment, rust and black sludge that occurs due to the corrosion and rusting of the inside of your radiators, valves and pipe work. It also clears any lime scale and dirt from the heat exchangers in your boiler which helps to extend its working life.
Driscoll & Crowley employ the Kamco CF90 power flushing machine (picture opposite), which acts as a large pump. It is connected either across your central heating pump valves or a radiator. Then in simple terms with the addition of chemicals and filtering, we power flush the water in your system. Once that stage has been completed we add an inhibitor to stop corrosion occurring after it is clean for several years to come.
All boiler manufacturers now insist on a complete power flush when adding a new boiler to an existing system, or a pre commission flush when installing a completely new system. The latter is to remove any excess solder and flux before adding the boiler.
Many manufacturers will not honour any warranty if a power flush has not been done and can check by testing the water in the system. So it’s important to ensure that this has been done by a professional company.
All family cars require a full service every year and heating systems in the home are no exception.
